Patrick Wolf‘s new song Hard Times marries a rock edge with a raw string riff. Good stuff, original and accessible. As usual Patrick’s unmistakeable voice is one of the best things about it. Unique, without crossing the fine-line over to Duffy-esque irritation; Tina Barrett (ex-S Club) has unfortunately decided to affect some pretentious quality to her voice, maybe to hide the fact she’s not that good.
I don’t really like the video, but then again Patrick’s avant-garde aspirations don’t really sit well with me anyway. I preferred Vulture‘s video, I personally think he looked quite good in not much leather. Maybe I have been watching too many Alex Collack videos. 9/10
I’d like to see Patrick and Kris Allen do duelling violas, but I don’t think Kris has kept it up since he left school. I still have a fantasy about being in an all-singing, all-string quartetting boyband though. I can’t dance, sing or play the cello very well, but I can try wiggling my bum like Bond’s Gay-Yee Westerhoff while chugging out repetitive basslines. Nobody notices when she gets the tune anyway!
